Finding The Right Blogs To Comment On

NFollow is a project I thought up that might help SEOs. It helps you decide whether the Wordpress blog post you have found is worth posting to if you want to gain some extra PageRank™. It's handy because it saves you time searching through page source code for rel="external nofollow" or related attributes.

New To Blog Commenting?

If you haven't posted a blog comment before, or you want a quick five minute boot camp on how, where and why, read my Dummies Guide To Blog Comment Posting. If you are familiar with posting to blogs, try 6 Tips For Successful Blog Commenting.

Why?

A good proportion of blogs incorporate the rel="external nofollow" attribute on user submitted URLs. This means that search engines will not follow any link that you post, and will not give any extra weight to your website.

To demonstrate what you will see when you check Wordpress blog pages with the bookmarklet tool, click on the following:

How To Use It

NFollow is based on using a bookmarklet/favelet to analyse a blog posting.

Firefox/Safari Users:

  1. Drag the following image (bookmarklet) to your browser's Bookmarks/Favourites toolbar above:
    NFollow Checker
  2. If your Bookmarks/Favourites toolbar is not visible, go to View » Toolbars » Bookmarks Toolbar and make sure it is ticked.
  3. Then, when you want to see whether a blog has got the nofollow attribute, just click the toolbar button, and it will analyse it for you.

Internet Explorer Users:

  1. Firstly, make sure that your Links Toolbar is showing in your browser. Click on View » Toolbars » Links
  2. Right-click the following image and select Add to Favorites:
    NFollow Checker
You may be told "You are adding a favorite that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?" The bookmarklet presents no risk and it is perfectly safe to continue. Click "Yes".
  3. Make sure that you choose the folder that is called "Links". After you click OK, it should then be visible in your Links Toolbar above.
  4. Now, when you visit a blog page, click on this bookmarked link to take you to the checking page.
